Lubuntu 12.04 LTS image with VMware Tools
More and more it becomes clear that people are not satisfied with the new Gnome 3 or the Unity of Ubuntu. These desktops seem to be the opposite of what Gnome used to be, namely ergonomic. Download and try instead the lightweight version of the Precise Pangolin just below.
The solution may be Lubuntu, the standard Ubuntu but with LXDE as its default desktop. L stands for lightweight and so the LDXE environment is also the swiftest of all desktops. Other highlights of this image are the 5 years long-term support and the preinstalled VMware Tools.
The successor of this image is a stripped-down version without any applications and only with system tools included. Here is the download link of the basic Lubuntu 12.04 image with VMware Tools. It is useful as a base image for your own VMware appliance.
For those who like the new ideas of Unity or want to have the standard Ubuntu we also have the Ubuntu 12.04 image.
The direct predecessor of this image is the Lubuntu 12.04 image without Tools. Finally there is the older Ubuntu 11.04 image with VMware Tools available. This one has also a Gnome 2 similar desktop called "Classic" that can be selected in the startup screen.
Applications: Abiword, Gnumeric, Chromium, Sylpheed, Transmission, Pidgin, Simple Scan, mtpaint, Osmo, Audacious, MPlayer, Xfburn, GCC compiler environment, and more tools.
