Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot VMware image

The Oneiric Ocelot VMware image is based on the latest Ubuntu distro 11.10 and comes out of the box with the new Unity desktop. Unity is the answer from the Ubuntu team to Gnome's Shell that is at the core of their 3.x series.

Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

For many this development seems to be a step backward. Cool translucency and screens full of fat icons combined with small fonts, that the user didn't authorize, dominate the new desktop experiences. Judge yourself what to think about these desktop inventions and download the new Ubuntu image below, which is otherwise stable and easily extendable as usual.

We have also another edition of the Ubuntu Oneiric Ocelot image. If you would like to have VMware Tools installed that have been tested and confirmed to work, download the Ubuntu 11.10 VMware image with Tools instead of this one.

Is this the chance for other desktops that still adhere to the principle "less may be more" to surpass the old dinosaurs that want to reinvent themselves? To be on the safe side, the Ubuntu developers assured that the Oneiric Ocelot can install the Gnome Shell. However, a quick way back to Gnome 2.x as directly built into the Ubuntu 11.04 image with VMware Tools doesn't exist.

Applications: Firefox, Thunderbird, LibreOffice, Transmission, Shotwell, Simple Scan, Brasero, Pitivi, Banshee, Gwibber, Empathy and many other audio, CD, video and system tools.
